GTA 6: The Preorder Chaos and What We Know

23

Saying Grand Theft Auto 6 will be the best-selling game of the year sounds crazy. Especially before it launches. Even more so, years in advance.

But here we are.

The anticipation is suffocating. It has been over a decade since GTA 5 dropped. There have been delays. More delays. Still more. But the franchise’s latest chapter is finally circling back. Is it the greatest game ever made? Hard to say. But the fever pitch is real, and it only gets hotter as we wait.

When is it coming?

Currently, Rockstar says November 19, 20 26.

Remember 2025? That ship sailed. Then they said May 2026. Then November. The date keeps shifting right.

Can I buy it now?

No. Not yet.

But.

Rumors scream otherwise. A Reddit thread blew up recently. Social media posts showed a Best Buy preorder email campaign set for May 18. Insider Gaming checked with affiliates. The emails are real.

The account GTA6Alerts posted code and images from Rockstar’s own site. They show a clear call to action. Preorders. Maybe a new trailer too. Rockstar stayed silent. They usually do.

“It’s imminent.” – Basically every gaming site right now

Where can I play?

Two places to start.

  • PS5
  • Xbox Series X/S

PC is likely coming, but don’t hold your breath for day one. The Switch 2? No word. Nothing. Silence.

How much will it hurt?

$70 is the standard. Big games cost that now. But GTA isn’t just any big game. Some experts whisper $100. Ouch.

Strauss Zelnick at Take-Two promised a “fair price.” Fair is relative, obviously. Nintendo tried $80 on Mario Kart World for Switch 2. That feels like a likely landing spot for Rockstar too.

Leonida (Florida, basically)

Welcome to the state of Leonida.

It is their fictional Florida. Big cities. Swamplands. Coasts. And the star of the show? Vice City returns. Think Miami. But modern. Not the Vice City 80s retro vibe you remember. This is current day.

The Story: Heists and Hearts

Meet Jason and Lucia.

Criminals in love. It’s a trope, but it works for Rockstar. The opener sees Jason picking Lucia up from the Penitentiary in Leonida. She went in protecting family. Now they escape. Together. One crime at a time.

They want to improve their lives. Through illegal means. Obviously.

New Mechanics?

Dual protagonists. Yes, again. Like GTA 5 but just the two of them. You switch between Jason and Lucia during missions.

Rockstar added some RPG junk. You eat food, you work out, your character changes. It sounds clunky until it probably isn’t. Melee combat feels realistic. Gunplay got a tweak. Modernized. Cleaner.

Is Online Back?

Well, yes.

Because of course it is.
