Oukitel has unveiled a rugged smartphone, the WP63, designed for those who demand extreme durability and utility from their mobile devices. The phone, demonstrated at MWC 2026, combines a massive battery, integrated tools, and an unusual feature: the ability to ignite a fire.
Key Features and Specifications
The Oukitel WP63 stands out due to its massive 20,000-mAh battery. This capacity dwarfs typical smartphone batteries (most premium handsets offer around 5,000 mAh) and allows for extended use in off-grid environments. The device also supports both 33-watt wired charging and 18-watt reverse wireless charging, meaning it can power other devices via USB-C or wirelessly. Additional integrated tools include a high-output LED lamp and a powerful speaker.
However, the most attention-grabbing feature is the built-in fire starter. Activated via an electric coil (similar to a car cigarette lighter), the device can theoretically sustain a flame for 4 to 10 minutes, though demonstrations at MWC were unreliable. The fire-starting mechanism is protected by a deliberate, difficult-to-access tab, preventing accidental activation.
Performance and Software
Beyond its unique features, the WP63 functions as a standard Android smartphone. It runs Android 16 with three years of promised software and security updates. The phone is equipped with a 6.7-inch Full HD (1,604×720-pixel) display, 8 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage, and a 64-megapixel rear camera. Despite being fully functional as a smartphone, its standout appeal lies in its ruggedized design and added capabilities.
Physical Dimensions and Trade-offs
The WP63’s bulk is notable; it measures 27mm thick, significantly larger than contemporary smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S26 (7.2mm). While offering long battery life and unique features, the device compromises on software support (only three years guaranteed) and display resolution (720p vs. the 1080p found in many competitors).
The Oukitel WP63 is positioned as a niche product for outdoor enthusiasts who prioritize longevity, utility, and novelty over conventional smartphone refinements. It will be available in May at an estimated price of $399 (US) or 343 euros, marking it as a specialized tool rather than a mainstream device.
