It’s basically the Z Flip 7 with a better engine.
That’s the short of it. Samsung’s next foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, looks remarkably like its predecessor. If recent leaks are accurate—and they usually are—you shouldn’t expect radical design changes. Same shell. Same display layout. Same cameras. Just… more power under the hood.
The reveal is set for July 22 in London. A Galaxy Unpacked event. I’ll be there, or at least watching the live feed. Stay tuned.
Under the hood
The biggest change is internal. The Flip 8 gets the Exynos 2600 chip, stepping up from the Exynos 2500 found in the Flip 7. More processing power? Yes. Welcome? Absolutely.
But is it what people wanted? Probably not.
There was genuine hope in the camp—maybe even in your living room—for a switch to Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. WinFuture says that isn’t happening. Stick with Samsung’s in-house silicon, apparently.
Other than the brain transplant, the physical specs are minor tweaks. Here’s the breakdown:
- Weight : It’s 8 grams lighter. Hardly noticeable, but every gram counts when it folds in your pocket.
- Charging : 45W wired charging is coming. Finally.
- Thickness : It’s slightly thicker. A weird trade-off, but okay.
So we get lighter, faster, better charging. But a thicker profile? And still no Snapdragon.
Not every generation needs to be a revolution.
Iterative upgrades are the industry standard now. It’s enough for new buyers who want a fresh box. Existing owners can just… wait. Or sell.
Is this news disappointing? Maybe. Especially if you heard the rumors about price hikes. You might be paying more for a phone that looks exactly like the one you have, minus those eight grams.
Official confirmation drops next week. Samsung will likely announce the Z Flip 8 alongside a bunch of other devices. Until then, we speculate.
Worth the wait? I guess you have to wait and see.
