Ring Launches Wireless 4K and 2K Video Doorbells, Bridging Resolution and Convenience

Ring, Amazon’s home security company, has expanded its video doorbell lineup with the introduction of battery-powered 4K and 2K models. These new devices address a key limitation of previous high-resolution doorbells – the need for existing doorbell wiring. Priced starting at $80, they offer a more flexible installation option for renters and homeowners alike.

The Shift to Wireless High-Resolution Security

Both Ring and Google Nest released high-resolution video doorbells with enhanced AI features in late 2025, but initially, these models required a wired connection. This presented a challenge for many users, as existing doorbell wiring is often poorly positioned for optimal security camera placement. Ring’s new battery-powered models overcome this constraint, allowing for installation in locations previously unsuitable for wired devices.

According to a Ring spokesperson, “Enhancing image quality in battery-powered doorbells means customers can enjoy reliable performance with the flexibility to install devices in a way that suits their space, whether renting or living in homes without existing wiring.” This marks a significant step forward in accessibility and user convenience.

New Models and Features

The newly released lineup includes three main battery-powered options:

  • Ring Battery Doorbell Pro: Priced at $250, this model offers up to 4K resolution, 10x zoom, and a redesigned internal architecture for improved battery efficiency.
  • Ring Battery Doorbell Plus (2nd-gen): At $180, this version features a quick-release battery pack and 2K video quality.
  • Ring Battery Doorbell (2nd-gen): The most affordable option at $100, this doorbell includes 2K video, 6x zoom, and a streamlined rechargeable design where the entire device is removed for charging.

A new wired version with 2K resolution is also available, starting at $80.

Advanced AI Capabilities with Ring Protect Pro

Ring’s standard Ring Protect plan provides cloud video storage and basic intelligent alerts. However, upgrading to the $20-per-month Ring AI Pro plan unlocks more sophisticated features. These include:

  • AI Video Descriptions: The doorbell provides summaries of detected activities, such as “person walking a dog” or “package left on porch.”
  • Video History Search: Users can search video recordings using specific keywords, like “bike” or “truck.”
  • Familiar Faces (Beta): The system identifies and logs recurring faces, enabling personalized alerts.

For privacy-conscious users, Ring offers lower-tier subscription plans or the option to forgo subscriptions entirely, retaining cloud storage without AI features.

The introduction of wireless high-resolution doorbells represents a convergence of convenience and advanced security features. By eliminating the need for existing wiring, Ring has made high-quality home monitoring more accessible to a wider range of consumers.
